This year, Dialectica again backs our ESG commitments with tangible investments! To reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of both our employees and our planet, we have partnered with Charity Miles and Run4More to engage in a walk for climate change in honour of Earth Day 2024 .
This April, over 100 Dialectica employees globally participated in a challenge to increase their physical activity levels to help us meet our target of raising over 7,000 USD. Fighting deforestation, mitigating the impact of wildfires and combating the melting of the ice cap are some of the ways our charities of choice participate in creating a better tomorrow.
Arctic Ice Project
With the Arctic melting almost 4 times faster than the rest of the globe, some beloved animals in the Northern Hemisphere could go extinct in less than 100 years. In its article When Will Polar Bears Go Extinct?, Earth.org shared that the rise of sea level, resulting from the melting of the ice cap, was making it difficult for polar bears to feed themselves and their cubs which resulted in the decrease of the population.
The Arctic Ice Project is aiming to fight that by deploying tiny hollow glass microspheres to slow the melting rate. The technology that they have developed could buy the world 15 more years to decarbonize. Donations to this project are essentially an investment in our future.
Earth Day
The largest civic event of its kind, Earth Day supports global mobilization to take concrete action to help combat climate change. In 2024, their focus will be centered around their commitment to end plastics production, starting by reducing it by 60% by 2040.
The UN Environment Programme has highlighted the alarming effects of plastic pollution, underscoring its significance on a global scale. Plastic pollution not only disrupts delicate ecosystems but also poses a direct threat to human livelihoods, exacerbating environmental degradation and climate change. By prioritizing the reduction of plastic production, Earth Day champions a cause that resonates deeply with our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our environment.
Humanity Greece
One of the biggest casualties of global warming is the communities that are impacted by natural disasters. In Greece for example, the locals in Thessaly were affected by Storm Daniel and Storm Elias in September.
Through its program, Thessalia Plugins Support Program, Humanity Greece is serving affected victims with food, renovations of destroyed spaces, provision of equipment and more. By giving back to this charity, we are hoping to continue to support the community that’s raising our future talents.
Tree Canada
Aiming to fight deforestation, Tree Canada is a non-profit organization that plants, nurtures and maintains trees in rural and urban environments. The Canadian National Fire Database announced that the country deals with approximately 8,000 fires yearly, which destroy the equivalent of approximately 315 times the size of the City of Montreal in forest hectares.
By planting trees in urban areas, Tree Canada is helping address heat island effects and improve air quality throughout all Canadian Provinces. It also helps counter the negative effects wildfires have on Canadian forests.
